Kitchen Craft Preserving Jars

Postby tipi on Tue Jul 12, 2011 5:32 am

HI, I'm a total n00b to fermentation. I bought a kilner jar by kitchen craft and followed the instructions by pouring boiling water over the (silicone?) seal. I tested to see if water would leak out by tipping the jar filled halfway with water on it's side for a few mins. There was a small pool of water.

Did I do something wrong with the seal or is the jar faulty? I can't see any cracks/chips in the glass. Should I have waited for the vacuum to seal properly?

Many thanks in advance for any help.

It's been a long time with no answer to your question. Would Kitchen Kraft be able to answer your question?
Fermentation Blessings!

If they are the same Kitchen Craft jars available in the UK I find they are only suitable for storing dried goods.

Are they the type with the clip and rubber ring tops?
If so they are a poor substitute for Le Parfait jars.
I found them very leaky and had on with significant bubbling in the glass.

If they are the flat metal lid and metal screw band type they are not intended to be used "cold". They are intended for bottling where the filled jars are heated and cooled to form a vacuum.

Hope this helps.
