kombucha and bugs...

Postby echobaxter on Sun Oct 05, 2014 9:37 pm

Hello,

I moved to ecuador and brought a kombucha drink with me to grow my own scoby. The first brew went fine but he second brew had a small amount of larva on the mother. I cleaned the mother and triple filtered the kombucha. I went ahead and bottled the tea because I have no way of growing a new scoby as I can not find kombucha in ecuador.

Do you think I should have just thrown ever thing or do you think everything will turn out and we'll be safe? Any input would be greatful appreciated.

Can you just leave the filtered tea out under a towel and see if it grows a new scoby? I'd be hesitant to continue with the original scoby, but when I was brewing kombucha it always reproduced vigorously in the tea I strained out.
