Can I warm my waterkefir drink?

Postby Annemieke on Mon Mar 20, 2017 12:38 pm

I’ve just got some lovely water kefir grains and will enjoy the product - but I don’t like cold drinks. Can I add hot water to my cup before drinking? How hot can this water be if I don’t want to harm the probiotics?
Thanks!

not very, if you really don't want to cut down the number of bugs much. anything over 115F makes things 'not raw', so 1) bringing the overall temp up to there would probably kill everything and 2) even adding water of that temp would kill some before the temperature equalized...

you don't like cold drinks - what about room temperature ones?

I am now keeping them in the airing cupboard at about 22-24 degrees Celsius (71-75F) which is just about warm enough for me if I keep my mug in there as well! Our 'room temperature' is about 16 (60F) on a good day ....
