Topping up your kefir

Postby Adora on Wed Jun 23, 2021 9:54 am

Hi!
Can anyone please tell me if you can just pour fresh milk into a portion
of your fermented milk to make a new batch?
I mean instead of adding the strained cultures (the grains) to the fresh milk?
I think I read that you can, but what will the product be like?
And Is this hygienic lol
It would be a lot easier really though, so id rather do that :)
Does anyone make their kefir this way?

Hi I make a lot of kefir. You can add extra milk or cream to your strained kefir and it will do a sort of secondary ferment ( for want of a better term) but it will not be as cultured as when using grains, and this should be a once only exercise. Really all you are doing is diluting the kefir.
