Probiotic yogurt

Postby tummyfix on Sat Apr 09, 2011 12:50 am

Is it possible to make yogurt using probiotic capsules? (Believe me, I am not the Probionic person.) I have a yogurt maker. Can I make yogurt with my usual starter and add a capsule and will the resulting yogurt also have the strain from my capsule active in it? If that does not work is there any way that will? Thank you very much in advance!

It certainly won't hurt anything if you want to try it. But the only way to know if you're preserving all the cultures in the capsules is to break out the petri dishes and microscope. Otherwise there's no way to tell if you put those cultures in milk if they would all survive...some strains of bacteria can overwhelm others, and some just may not like your milk.
