Kefir grains + warm porridge = no!

Postby Annoyeddragon on Tue Mar 27, 2018 5:02 am

So I had the bright idea of putting excess kefir grains in porridge... I waited for it to cool enough to be edible then mixed it in.

At first it was fine, just the odd bit of sour in a bite. Then it rapidly turned into the consistency of what I can only call mucous... At first I tried to ignore this and keep my imagination at bay, until the texture had spread throughout the entire porridge and I found myself involuntarily spitting it out; near throwing up. I found it inedible at that point.

Any idea why this had happened, some sort of heat reaction? Have I ingested anything harmful?

Probably something like the polysaccharides or proteins forming microfilaments and getting gooey together. Almost certainly not harmful, but really does sound gross.
Currently looking at things and pondering about stuff.

Gross is a understatement, but glad I didn't poison myself or anything XD

Honesty thought it would be a good way to get more good microbes in me.
