Too much kefir, too few grains

Postby baerdric on Mon May 07, 2018 2:21 pm

I seem to be having great success with milk kefir, so much so that I have two unused jars of it in the fridge. I also just put the new batch in the fridge to slow it down.

But what I don't see is much growth. I didn't expect much in the first few ferments, but maybe I'm not doing something that would encourage reproduction. I only have about a teaspoon of grains and I feel a little apprehensive about having all of my grains in one basket...

You may want to try separating the grains by hand. Not sure why but seem like they grow quicker when smaller.

Oh, you mean like breaking the bigger ones into smaller pieces? That kind of makes sense in a surface area way.

I'm about to start a new batch with some better but still not raw milk, I'll try that now.
