moldy looking cultured cream

I left out at room temp some raw goat milk cream to culture to make butter later. I have had it stored in frig since and checked it and it has what appears to be mold on top. Is it still ok? Can I just skim off the mold and continue with the shaking method of making butter?

What colour mould is it? How does it smell to you?

Somewhere deep in my brain, I've seen the answer to this (what to look for to know if the milk mould is safe or not) but where? Perhaps The Art of Fermentation or more likely, Nourishing Traditions by Fallon. I'll try and dig the books out and have a look.

Hopefully someone else can tell us more.

Also, was the milk pasteurized or artificially homogenized (as opposed to the natural homogenization in goats milk)?
