kefir grains: squeeze our strain?

Postby justineaton on Wed Nov 27, 2013 6:51 pm

I have had my kefir for a little bit now and have been straining them, I came across this article tonight that claims that fishing them out with your hand and squeezing them stimulates them into producing something called kefiran that has additional health property's and also encourages them to grow faster. I was curious if the people here who have been making kefir for awhile prefers to squeeze our strain? Here is a link to the article http://thehealthyeatingsite.com/kefir-r ... ir-yogurt/

I think kefiran is the slimy stuff they produce that coats the grains. They produce this continuously regardless of whether or not they have been squeezed. Squeezing them just releases the kefiran that has been sealed up within and among the grains.
