Tofu without Soy...

I am not sure if tofu is fermented or not, I know some of it is but I have only been able to find information -limited- on making it from soy milk. We have soy allergies and generally avoid it so I would like to experiment with another bean. Does anyone know of a source for something like this?

I have seen a Burmese tofu made with chickpeas. I am sure of nothing about it as at that time, we were unable to eat chickpeas.
