Tempeh light and ventilation

Postby michiel on Fri Jan 10, 2014 5:55 pm

Hi! I have pursuaded myself to start making my own tempeh, and I'll need an incubator for that. Most suggestions on how to make one seem to use a light bulb. Is the light essential for the fermentation, or is this just a simple way to create heat?

Moreover, commercial incubators for reptile or chicken eggs don't seem to be that expensive. Is the light or ventilation unsuitable to make tempeh, or are they just as good?

Thanks in advance for your help!

If you are serious about making Tempeh, get The Book of Tempeh by William Shurtleff & Akiko Aoyagi. They cover it all, many methods, many kinds of tempeh, and you will not be disappointed.
