Drowsy after eating?

Postby Dostoevsky on Sun Nov 12, 2017 3:25 pm

Does anyone else get drowsy after eating fermented foods?

I bought some Bubbies pickles last week, and whenever I eat a couple, I get sleepy afterward. I've been drinking homemade kefir regularly, but this is the first time in years that I've eaten fermented vegetables.

Is this happening because my body is getting adjusted to the probiotics in the pickles, or is drowsiness just a common side effect?

Thanks in advance.

That's fascinating. I've never heard of that. You should make/buy some kraut and see if the same thing happens.

Did some experimenting. Ate some more pickles and tried some sauerkraut too. I didn't get drowsy like before, so I assume that my system was just getting used to the probiotics in the Bubbies pickles.

I'm kinda disappointed though. Sometimes I have insomnia, and I thought that I had found a solution lol...

If I were to get drowsy after eating my fermented foods, I would suspect there was some alcohol content. I have tasted alcohol in my sauerkraut before. ;)
