bad smell on spelt potato starter

I made a starter from brown spelt and the water left over from boiling organic potatoes. I got some yeast action after a couple days, but when I went to stir and feed it the third day, I noticed a bad smell, almost a dirty diaper smell, or maybe cheesy vomit. I don't know if I should toss it or use it.
