What kind of white fluffy mold grows on cooked rice?

Postby newbiez on Mon Sep 30, 2013 11:51 am

By accident, I left my cooked basmati rice on a covered pan on top of the stove. After 3 days(yesterday), I open the cover and half of the rice is covered with fine white fluffy-cotton-ny stuff. And this morning, the stuff is growing more of the white-cottony stuff without any patch of dark color. I did not put any starter nor anything. I am wondering if any of you know what it might be.

On the back of my mind, a few days prior, I finished my somewhat successful tempeh fermentation experimentation. I cleaned up all the utensils but is it possible that the tempeh starter on the air somewhat got into the left-over cooked rice? If not, I am so curious what possibly growing on the cooked rice.

Thanks a bunch.
