Mouldy Weights

Postby mfb77 on Mon Apr 20, 2015 9:33 am

Hi,
I have a German ceramic crock, with ceramic weights. The last batch of sauerkraut I made came out mouldy, and the the weights were also covered in mould. I haven't used them in months now, but the weights still have some black markings. Are these weights OK to use, or do I need to treat them somehow, or just buy a new set? Thanks!

If you scroll down this page you will see a previous discussion on moldy weights. When you made your kraut was it and the weights under brine the whole time ?
You can learn a lot on any subject here by checking out the old posts .Welcome to the forum !

Bake the weights/stones in the oven. I do this anyway to sterilize them. Wash them, scrub them first and then bake them.
