vitrified porcelain crock with crack in it

Postby fermentingnewbie on Wed Sep 11, 2013 12:44 pm

I've been offered a vitrified porcelain crock second made by a professional potter that has two cracks - one in the lid and one in the inside of the bottom. Neither crack goes all the way through to the outside, and the crock holds water. Is there any reason it wouldn't be safe to use this crock for fermenting? Thanks.

I have a crock which has glaze missing on it and I haven't used it. I have been wondering whether there is any way to repair such an issue. Other than that there is nothing wrong with it, it just a case of whether it is worth all the time trying to fix it. Sending it away is not really an option due to the weight.
