Mold near bottom of Kombucha jar?

Postby lulapop on Thu Feb 25, 2010 5:49 pm

So, it has taken me several weeks - perhaps longer - to finish off my last brew, and in the meantime, the jar of new Kombucha is sitting in the refrigerator, with the scoby removed. But, as usual, the longer I wait to drink it, the more new wiggly stuff grows at the bottom of the beverage. This time, the bottom material has reached new gelatinous proportions, and there are actually what look like little fuzzy white balls scattered throughout. They are not at the surface - if so, I'd quickly diagnose them as mold. But instead, they are deep within my Kombucha. Is it possible to grow mold where there is no air? Or is this just the latest manifestation of my creepy scoby?
