Brown sugar in Kombucha by accident

Postby dnsumm1 on Wed Jan 02, 2019 3:38 pm

Hello all,

I have been enjoying a 4 L dispenser of continuous brew of Kombucha now for the past month and have so far been very pleased with it. If I take 1 L it takes 2-3 days to be ready again, 2 L it takes a week and 3 L it takes a week and a little. Yesterday I just returned home from a trip and so was able to draw 3 L from the Kombucha continuous brew and take my first batch of Kefir after it rested in the fridge. I was making the kombucha starter tea and the kefir brown sugar water at the same time and I just realized (after already pouring it all in) that I made 3L of brown sugar starter tea.... this is why I shouldn't do two things at once! Is there anything I can do to help this? Is my poor SCOBY done for? I know that Kefir loves the minerals in my brown sugar but everything I've ever read about Kombucha says white sugar is best... Thankfully I have a backup SCOBY in a hotel just in case, but any thoughts or advice are welcome. Thank you!
