Slimy ginger bug

Postby catalinalozanom on Fri May 15, 2020 12:22 pm

Hello all,

I have been making ginger beer for a couple of months. I had no problems until now.
But this time my ginger bug became slimy, very think. I've read somewhere else that it'll pass, but would love to get more insights into this. I has been about a week and it's still the same. I have kept feeding it every two days. Shall I continue? Should I give up with this bug?
Any ideas?
Many many thanks,
Catalina

I've seen reports of the dextran passing with time and others where it never did. Is your bug acting right otherwise? bubbling, etc? I wonder if it's usable like that if you ignore it.

I don't know if this is related, but I've had ginger beer get slimy a few times. As far as I can tell, it only happened when I boiled the ginger. If I poured hot water over the ginger but didn't heat it afterwards, I don't think it ever got slimy for me.
